Syrah

Native to France (Rhône Valley), it is the most widely planted grape in Australia, where excellent Shiraz (as the original Syrah is known there) is produced. It is an ovoid-shaped, berry-sized grape that produces robust wines with spicy aromas, such as green pepper, tobacco, and chocolate, as well as notes of blueberry and red plum. For this reason, it is often recommended as a pairing with exotic or highly spiced dishes (lamb shawarma, Asian pork, or Indian tandoori, for example).
