Climates

The terroir in wine is also influenced by the climate and its changes. Although the vine is a fairly generous plantation and easy to adapt, it has some requirements to offer a variety of quality grapes. Climates that are too humid or cold will be limiting for its fertility and balance in acidity, both fundamental elements for terroir in wines. Geographic conditions, elevations and other geographical features are factors that produce changes in wine plantations. Generally the vine does not do well with uneven soils that cause a poor drainage system. This is something that we must keep in mind when we are learning what terroir is, since it considerably modifies the character of the wine. As we mentioned previously, labor means that a wine region ends up offering an adequate product, or on the contrary, loses its properties. A winemaker must have knowledge of what the terroir is and thus take advantage of all the factors that make it up. A good terroir in wine will offer us quality in flavor, texture, color and aroma, which we can enjoy when tasting a glass.
